Radha-Krishna: The Perfect Valentines'

14th February is Valentine’s Day. It is celebrated as the day of love all over the world. The One day for which lovers and married couples wait all year through. I had thought of writing a special poem on this celebration. But then, with God’s blessings, a different idea came to me, and I chose something totally different, but still connected with ‘Love’: ‘RADHA-KRISHNA’. Since the time I remember they have remained the perfect representatives of love and lovers. So, for me, it was a perfect subject for my hub. Please share your feedback with me. Lord Krishna in Hindu Mythology is the Eighth Incarnation or Avatar of Lord Vishnu. He is considered to be the strongest of Lord Vishnu's incarnations. Besides possessing supernatural powers, he was a supreme politician, a best friend, guide and a leader par excellence. Besides introducing us humans to the theory of ‘Karmas,’ during the divine discourse he gave to his best friend ‘Arjun’ in Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta, he also showed,what ‘true love’ is. It is for this reason that his incarnation is also referred to as ‘Premavatar’ (Incarnation for Love). Thus, when it comes to Love, Shree Krishna is bound to come to one's mind; and Shree Krishna as a symbol of love is incomplete without Radha ji. “Radha-Krishna” together are an inseparable symbol of true love for generations now. Since thousands of years, there have been many stories of their love. But Radha-Krishna are way above these stories. Together they are an ideal pair for lovers across generations now, the perfectness one would want to achieve in his or her love for his lover, or even God.

Radha Ji was not only Lord Krishna’s childhood love but she herself is considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Laxmi, who is the eternal wife/partner of Lord Vishnu. Radha ji and Krishna are considered to be one, symbolizing the stage when two souls are united to the extent that, difference of the other or the second vanishes in them. She is the most important friend of Krishna, 'His heart and soul', and His 'hladini-shakti' (mental companion potency); thus her importance is even more than that of Lord Krishna himself. Lord Krishna himself had said that if a person truly wants to please him, or get his blessings, then that person should either study & follow the rules of strict karma contained in Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta, or he should pray Goddess Radha. If Radha ji is pleased, then Lord Krishna’s blessings will be on that person automatically. She is the supreme power with which Lord Krishna controls this world.

Radha-Krishna Marriage: -

There are many theories prevalent popularly in India regarding the marriage of ‘Radha-Krishna’. Though in popular beliefs it is thought that Radha & Krishna had never married; they spent their lives separate from each other, as divine lovers. Some people even say that Radha ji had ultimately married some one else, but that person could not even touch her. But there are some places where we find the explicit mention of “Radha-Krishna’ wedding ceremony in fact taking place. This marriage was not conducted in front of this world, but was performed by Lord Brahma, one of the trinity of Lords Brahma (the creator of world), Lord Vishnu (who nourishes and fosters us) and Lord Shiv (the destroyer). These mentions are found in ‘Bramhavaivarta Purana’and ‘Garg Samhita’, one of the ancient Indian texts. Besides this, in some places in ‘Braj’ and ‘Vrindavan’, people there tell of the place where this marriage of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha ji was conducted. I did some research of my own on google, so that I could provide some information in detail, to my readers. Conclusion:-

Irrespective of the theories and stories revolving around Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha, there is one thread which binds them all. The thread of love, the model of love which both of them wanted to show to the world. In our eyes, Radha & Krishna could not live together in physical forms, but they showed what true love can help us humans achieve, in its purest form. This love can be for your loved one, for your God, and one can achieve bliss in this lifetime only. By sacrificing their love, they wanted to show us, what true love means. Radha ji sacrificed Krishna’s physical companionship because she loved him in the truest form possible. She didn’t want to become an impediment in Lord Krishna’s path of duties, the goal of his incarnation for which he had come. Lord Krishna too made sacrifice, though his sacrifice does not come in limelight, but in moving away from Radha ji in the path of his duty, he showed us how important our life’s goals and duties are. Thus, together they formed a perfect balance as models of Love and Duty. Radha-Krishna are inseparable, their goals are inseparable, their love for each other and this world, humans is one. The purpose of their Avatar itself was their love for us humans, this Earth. Therefore, rightly so, Radha-Krishna today stand as a perfect symbol of perfect lovers.

This is my first attempt at writing anything. If I could at all finish this hub in time, then I owe this to one special person and to dear internet. Wikipedia and these two blogs which I have mentioned are one of the most important contributors in the enhancement of my knowledge. But, there is one person without whom I might not have even thought of writing anything like this. My mother: she has always been the chief source of my knowledge about everything spiritual, mythological or even historical. Had it not been for her, this hub would not have been possible at all.
